Foraged Feasts at the Manor House

If you are a regular visitor to the Manor House’s website you will know that we have a daily changing menu. One reason for this is that all the produce and ingredients used by our Head Chef and his kitchen team are, where and whenever possible, sourced locally.

Some of our products and ingredients are sourced from elsewhere in Scotland but when we say locally we mean right here in Argyll, and very often right here on our doorstep.

The Manor House Head Chef Gerard McCluskie regularly embarks on foraging trips to some of the woodland and shorelines around Oban in search of the rich pickings that nature provides. The main advantage of this is that what he comes back with is 100% natural, fresh and packed full of flavour.

For example, there are some great spots to find beautiful chanterelle mushrooms (pictured). A word of warning if you are thinking of trying a bit of foraging for yourself. It can be potentially fatal if you are not armed with knowledge of what is and what isn’t safe to eat. Thankfully, Gerard is very experienced and knows exactly what to look for. This shows when our diners return empty plates to the kitchen!
