The Oban Highland Games (also known as the Argyllshire Gathering) is one of the most prestigious Highland Games in Scotland. The 2015 Games will be held on Thursday 27th August at its usual location of Mossfield Park on the outskirts of Oban after the customary Steward’s March from Oban’s Argyll Square.
It’s a highlight of the Highland Games calendar for athletes, dancers and musicians not just from all over the Highlands but across the world. Not only do they come for the fun, spectacle and history of these Games but also because many of the events are championship events with medals and titles to be won, reputations to be established and maintained and personal goals sought.
The Oban Games is not just about the serious competition. It’s a fun day out for children and adults alike with trade stands, food stalls selling delicious Scottish produce, arts and crafts as well as traditional side shows and fairground attractions.
Many visitors to the Games will be also interested in the Heritage Tent which will contain exhibits and fascinating information about the rich culture of Argyll. Those curious to delve a little deeper into the history, people and places of Argyll can chat to clan and local visitor attraction representatives who are always happy to share their knowledge.
The Games start at 10 am with the Stewards March to Mossfield Park with events continuing throughout the day and culminating with the Pipe Band March back to Argyll Square.
