The Travelodge annual holiday index reveals some interesting facts about holidaying in the UK with Scotland, and the Highlands in particular, featuring prominently.
The Scottish Highlands remains one of the most popular holiday destinations in the UK and has moved from 9th in 2016 to 6th as the most popular destination for UK holidaymakers who choose not to go abroad. This covers everything from long summer holidays, week long breaks, short breaks and weekends away.
One of the great things about the Scottish Highlands and the west coast in particular is that even though during the warmer months visitors come from not just the UK but from across the world, there is most definitely space to accommodate everyone. In June, July and August it only takes a short drive from Oban and you can find yourself in a quiet rural village or enjoying the peace and tranquillity of hill or coastal walk.
That said, many enjoy the thriving hustle and bustle of of Oban during the summer months as it is such a cosmopolitan hub of activity with so many making it either their destination for a day trip or a stopping off point on their way to exploring more of the Highlands and Islands.
